Mafidz, a folk-pop band, is back with a new album, Teleportasi after six years, since their debut album was released in 2018.

Written and produced by the three siblings, Megat Hafidz, Megat Fazly, and Megat Aizzat, the 11-track album is set to showcase a new sound by Mafidz, exploring various themes and emotions.

What’s the direction and theme of Teleportasi?

According to Megat Fazly, the vocalist and pianist, Mafidz still maintains folk as the primary element of their sophomore album, though listeners can expect their experimentation with the alternative pop genre.

Calling ‘Teleportasi’ “crafted with a fresh breath of diversity in tones”, the folk band introduces drum instruments which were not used in their debut album. One of the tracks also features a string quartet for the first time.

Who are the collaborators in this album?

Teleportasi showcases collaborations with the reggae nusantara group Salammusik and singer-songwriter Otam through the songs ‘Tenteram’ and ‘Senandung’.

According to Mafidz, these collaborations with both local musicians are special, as they coincide with their efforts to inject freshness and new nuances into this album.

“The selection of Salammusik for collaboration is special to us because the group enjoys experimenting with their works by featuring elements of the archipelago, even while highlighting reggae music.

Meanwhile, collaborating with Otam is suitable for the musical style of the songs we want to present. His interpretation in expressing his music and unique lyric composition are also greatly admired by us.”

How long did it take Mafidz to complete the album?

During the press conference of the album, Mafidz mentioned that the album took them four years to complete, and much of their plans were halted due to the pandemic.

Megat Aizzat, the vocalist and guitarist, shared, “Although this album took a long time to complete due to various constraints, we are very grateful that it is finally finished and ready to be shared with everyone.”

Will there be a tour?

Yes! Mafidz is planning to hold a showcase for the Teleportasi album and tour throughout Malaysia. According to the band, this plan would start sometime after Hari Raya.

What’s their next single?

After releasing ‘Kayuh!’ and ‘Lemas’, their third single ‘Kala Malam’ will be released on 1st March, along with a music video. The music video features talented local actress Sara Ali and is directed by Izmer Hamdan.
