Hip-hop collective 53 Universe has released Setahun Sekali, an EP designed to capture the essence of self-reflection, faith and personal growth during the holy month of Ramadan.

According to the Taman Melawati-based collective, the EP’s title, Setahun Sekali reflects the annual significance of Ramadan as a time for spiritual renewal.

The EP includes three tracks by IMRN, Pele L. as well as Faiz Ruzayn. Each track offers a unique perspective on life and faith.

The first track Hingga Menutup Mata by IMRN is described as a “poignant ballad about appreciating every moment and seeking peace before life’s final breath” while Jubah Putih by Pele L. is said to present a “rap-driven narrative of transformation and redemption.”

The EP concludes with Doaku Doamu by Faiz Ruzayn, a track that 53 Universe hope to emphasise on the shared human experience of hope and struggle.

A representative from 53 Universe described the project as more than just a collection of songs.

“With Setahun Sekali, we want to create a musical journey that resonates with the spirit of Ramadan, (by) inviting listeners to pause, reflect and embrace personal transformation,” they said.
