Indie pop band The Peachskins have released their second album, When a Boy Tells The Truth, on March 17.
The album is considered a breakup record, inspired by frontman Raf’s experience of a relationship coming to an end. Drawing from Sabrina Carpenter’s playful, sugary pop, the band shared that they were particularly influenced by the pop star’s “honesty in her lyrics that is somehow delivered in the most playful of ways, despite its heartbreaking subject matter.” This approach became the foundation for the band’s evolving sound.
A new music video is currently in the works for the focus track, “Familiar Feeling,” and is expected to feature cameos from several Malaysian artists who have been secretly cast.
The band also revealed that an upcoming EP, tentatively titled Just a Boy Jamboree, is currently being finalised. It will include a brand new track, “Just a Boy Pt. 2” alongside multiple versions of the original song, such as “Just a Boy (Avoidant Version)” an instrumental rendition, and “Just a Boy (Anxious Version)” a sped-up take.
Running just 19 minutes, When a Boy Tells The Truth draws inspiration from different shades of pop and is now available on all streaming platforms.
