Your Guide to Record Store Day 2026 in Malaysia

Come celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store!

Record Store Day falls on Saturday, the 18th of April this year, but in Malaysia, the celebration has a way of spreading across the entire month which means more chances to dig, more chances to discover and for the devoted, more chances to do it all again.

This guide is still being updated so please check back for the latest. But for now, here’s what’s happening at Record Store Day events this year:

Kung Bros Collectors Market — Penang

At George Town’s Hin Bus Depot, Kung Bros is assembling vinyl enthusiasts, local collectors and specialty vendors including Fujiyama Records and WildFlower Records 野花唱片鋪. For a day in George Town, spend your time digging and hanging around. Watch out for exclusive releases too.

Date: Saturday, 11 April 2026

Time: 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Address: Hin Bus Depot, 31A, Jalan Gurdwara, 10300 George Town, Penang

Labang Festival x Record Store Day — Ipoh

Ipoh’s second RSD event takes the longest view of the day, running from noon straight through to midnight at the Curb Coffee parking lot. The schedule goes like this: Vinyl DJs anchor the afternoon while live performances by Fictions, S. Razali, and Singapore’s Swoon carry it into the night.

The Sundos Market offers the expected spread — vinyl, CDs, cassettes, collectibles, clothing — but the event’s most notable element may be a release from UPTR (Unknown Place to Records), an independent distributor devoted to physical formats. Their offering is Fana’ Fade Out, a four-way split cassette limited to fifty copies, bringing together Kawabata Makoto of Acid Mothers Temple (Japan), Theo Nugraha (Indonesia), and Malaysian artists Kamal Sabran and Joni Mustaf.

Date: Saturday, 18 April 2026

Time: 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

Address: Curb Coffee Parking Lot, GF-Caberet, Lot 3435N, Jalan Raja Ekram, Taman Jubilee, 30300 Ipoh, Perak

Kena Sound x Sputnik Rekordz — Kuala Lumpur

Tucked on the third floor of Pasar Besar TTDI, Sputnik Rekordz is marking the occasion with a slate of exclusive releases drawn from across the region — Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia — spanning vinyl, CD and cassette.

Among the announced titles is Lebur-Lebur Kaphungaan by The Swallows, a singular artifact from one of Singapore’s most vital bands of the 1960s, who rose to prominence amid the kinetic energy of the Pop Yeh-Yeh movement. The release is a collaboration between Sputnik Rekordz and La Munai Records. Expect also acoustic performances and DJs round out the afternoon.
