Joni Mustaf, the alter ego of multidisciplinary artist Mohd Jayzuan, has finally released his 7-track album titled Qurfusha.

The album, which was recorded eight years ago, involves Mohd Jayzuan, avant-garde maestro Kamal Sabran, and model-actress Nia “Sleepyllama” Atasha.

The album is produced, recorded, early mixed, and finally polished by Kamal Sabran. The songs were created by Jayzuan and worked on together with Kamal.

All lyrics are by Jayzuan, while Nia, participating in music recording for the first time, contributed her vocals.

The recording took place at Ipoh Experimental Art School, produced by the artist collective Projek Rabak, and all digital uploads were managed by Taja Archive.

In December 2019, this recording was released in Indonesia by ruru records as an art project headed by Indra Ameng, the manager of White Shoes & The Couples Company and influential contemporary art collective curator, ruangrupa.

The work, called Sorry, Poor Connection, was released as a split album and fanzine with Jakarta lo-fi legend Harlan Boer, printed only in 100 units as collector’s items.

A Joni Mustaf and Harlan Boer tour to several cities followed.

The album cover art for Qurfusha was done by aimee ahmad and the cover photo by Kamal Sabran.

For the physical version, Qurfusha will be released in cassette form by an Indonesian label, Parttime Rekords.

Meanwhile, the CD will be produced by Freak Music, a label from Tampin. Updates on physical releases will be announced in the future.

Mohd Jayzuan has three solo albums under his own name: Love-fi (2008), Pop n’ Roll (2015), and Filokalis (2021), and an album with his band Free Love: Feed Us with Yr Love (2008).

Jayzuan has also released an EP and has been involved in several compilations and various music projects since the late ’90s under the names Mohd Jayzuan, Free Love, Bloodymary, Brush Moistened, The Hoolibuns, Kantoi Social Club, and other underground projects.
