Kuala Lumpur shoegaze unit heavëner has released their debut LP, Through the Fractured Sky, two years after their EPs As Suns and Love Retreat (2024) and heavëner (2023).
The ten-track album features two guest appearances: Iman Khalis of shoegaze band the world ends with you appears on “Internal Self – Bermuda”, while fthh. (Kauthar Yusri) and thequietforce. feature on “Lease (Tulips iii)”. The latter is the third iteration of the song, following versions released across their previous EPs.
On the production side, the album was recorded and engineered by Shah Mokhtarizal at iSeekMusic Studio. Mixing was handled by Dzul Fawaid Ahmad — guitarist and vocalist of Indonesian shoegaze band Sunlotus — at Studio Barkah in Semarang, Indonesia, with mastering by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios in Massachusetts, USA.
In a statement, the band described Through the Fractured Sky as “a heavenly descent into memory, nostalgia, and the silent fury of love.”
“It weaves cosmic imagery with intensely human agony throughout ten journeys, alternating between intimate confession and dreamy din. Stories of lovers out of motion, fate-driven heart misalignments, and brief epiphanies in emotional fog — each piece feels like a fragment of a dying transmission. The sound strikes a delicate balance between grandeur and fragility, flowing from hushed reflection to imposing walls that appear to melt into the background,” the band said.
heavëner have established themselves as a leading act in the Malaysian shoegaze scene of the 2020s, boasting a prolific discography that includes the split EP Seasons alongside local acts aktadiri, the world ends with you, and mewl, as well as a split EP with Bubbler from Baltimore, Maryland.
heavëner is Haziq ‘Maro’ Zulkifli, Izz Zikry, Zahir Zakaria, and Faidil Kamaruddin. Through the Fractured Sky is out now on Bandcamp.
