KL-based shoegaze band Commemorate is set to appear on KEXP’s Live on KEXP series, following a session filmed in Bali, Indonesia.
The band travelled to Bali in August to take part in the series’ first-ever Asia project. In partnership with the Axean Festival, KEXP filmed 12 live acts from across Southeast Asia, with Commemorate among them.
Curated by Eastern Echoes host Diana Ratsamee, the sessions showcase the breadth of sounds across Southeast Asia’s vibrant music scenes.
“During these sessions, we captured artists who transform familiar sounds through their own cultural roots, local influences, and bold creative visions,” the Seattle-based radio station said on Instagram.
Commemorate follow in the footsteps of singer-songwriter Yuna, who performed for KEXP in February 2011. She delivered an acoustic session on the station’s Morning Show, broadcast live from Cutting Room Studios in New York City, shortly after the release of her digital EP Decorate. It was her U.S. radio debut.
The Live on KEXP YouTube sessions feature high-definition, in-studio performances and artist interviews that have collectively drawn millions of views worldwide. The Bali sessions mark the first time the series has travelled to Asia to spotlight Southeast Asia’s music scenes.
According its guitarist Irman Hilmi, Commemorate’s Live on KEXP set is expected to be released in November.
The band released their self-titled, seven-track debut album in April 2025 through Jakarta-based label La Munai Records. Listen on Bandcamp now.
